Hibiscus?
Yakushima is subtropical, at least on the lowlands - they do get snow on the mountains. There are a lot of these flowers growing around the island and I guess they are a hibiscus.
Todaiji
Todaiji Temple in Nara is one of the biggest wooden buildings in the world.
