Hotei
There is a statue of Hotei next to Jomon-no-yado Manten. It is a popular misconceptions that this is a figure of the historical Buddha and yes there is more than one Buddha in Buddhism. Hotei in Japan
is one of the Seven Lucky Gods and is a God of fortune, popularity, guardian of children and patron of diviners and barmen. Hotei was a historical Chinese Zen priest nut later became associated the Buddhist Miroku. Miroku was the patron of those who could not be saved by the beliefs of Buddha.
Not sure why he is standing here all by his lonesome as there is no temple to be seen, maybe because he is lucky to have around.
