Itsukushima

Itsukushima or more commonly known as Miyajima, is an island off the coast near Hiroshima. Itsukushima is famous for its torii, or Shinto gateway, rising out of the sea. A holy island due to the Shinto Shrine that was established here in the sixth century, the Shrine is dedicated to the three daughters of Susanoo-no-Mikoto, a important storm God as he is the brother of Amaterasu, the supreme sun goddess of the Shinto religion.
